Diagnostic Testing

In-Office Diagnostic Testing

At McLean Cardiology, we offer a comprehensive range of cardiovascular diagnostic services to assess and monitor your heart health. Our approach combines in-office testing with access to specialized off-site procedures, ensuring a thorough evaluation tailored to your individual needs.

In-Office Diagnostic Testing

Our facility provides a range of non-invasive tests conducted by our experienced medical team:

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is a non-invasive ultrasound test that uses sound waves to create detailed images of your heart's structure and function. This test helps in evaluating heart muscle strength, valve function, and detecting rhythm disorders. It is instrumental in diagnosing conditions such as heart disease and assessing overall heart health.

Stress Test

Stress tests evaluate your heart's ability to respond to exercise stress in a controlled clinical environment. We offer:

  • Electrocardiogram Stress Test: This involves walking on a treadmill while heart activity is monitored to assess how your heart responds to physical exertion.
  • Exercise Echocardiography: Combines a stress test with an echocardiogram to observe heart function during physical activity.

These tests are essential for detecting coronary artery disease and assessing exercise tolerance.

Vascular Ultrasound Testing

Vascular ultrasounds use high-frequency sound waves to examine blood flow and detect abnormalities in blood vessels. Our services include:

  • Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) Test: Measures blood flow to the limbs to identify peripheral artery disease.
  • Carotid Doppler: Assesses blood flow in the carotid arteries to evaluate stroke risk.
  • Abdominal Aorta Ultrasound: Detects aneurysms in the abdominal aorta.
  • Lower Extremity Arterial and Venous Doppler: Evaluates blood flow and detects conditions like deep vein thrombosis and peripheral vascular disease.

These non-invasive tests are crucial for diagnosing vascular conditions and preventing complications.

Holter Monitoring

A Holter monitor is a portable device worn for 24 hours to continuously record your heart's electrical activity. It helps in detecting arrhythmias and assessing heart rhythm over an extended period.

Off-Site Testing and Procedures

For specialized diagnostic procedures not available in our office, we collaborate with trusted partners to provide comprehensive care:

  • Nuclear Stress Testing: Utilizes a small amount of radioactive material to assess blood flow to the heart muscle during stress.
  • Lexiscan Nuclear Test: An alternative for patients unable to exercise; it uses medication to simulate stress and assess heart function.
  • Cardiac PET Scan: A highly accurate imaging test that evaluates blood flow, detects scar tissue, and assesses heart function.
  • Cardiac MRI: A non-invasive imaging technique that provides detailed pictures of the heart’s structure and function.
  • Genetic Testing: Blood or saliva-based testing to identify inherited risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
  • Extended Cardiac Event Monitor (2–4 Weeks): Wearable devices that continuously record heart activity over an extended period to detect infrequent or intermittent arrhythmias

Our team coordinates all aspects of these tests, ensuring a seamless experience from scheduling to results interpretation.
